Passion for the Passion Play: UK Travel Trade meets Oberammergau VIPs in London for advance preview
The German National Tourist Office UK and Ireland (GNTO) yesterday hosted 16 of the UK’s top tour operators and travel agents at a lunch in London, to meet the directors of the Passion Play 2020 (Oberammergau Vertriebs GmbH Co. KG), from Oberammergau, Bavaria. With the UK the second most important incoming source market for the world’s most famous and largest Passion Play, discussions are already underway for advance bookings, pricing and packages for the 2020 Passion Play, for the UK travel trade.
Beatrix Haun, director, GNTO UK and Ireland, introduced representatives from the Passion Play 2020, including the play’s director, Mr. Christian Stückl. Following the press conference held at the ITB in Berlin in March, the UK was the high on the list for the directors promoting the 2020 performance. “Germany is regularly voted as the No. 1 cultural destination for Europeans” said Beatrix Haun “and The Passion Play is one of the most distinctive reasons why. It is the largest and most famous performance of its kind and with a history dating back to 1633 and is firmly on the world’s cultural calendar. People attend the Passion Play from all over the world and reservations are made years in advance”.
Mr. Christian Stückl presented new features for the 2020 performance and the team from Oberammergau explained the booking process for tour operators and travel agents. Pre-sales are organised in three steps and packages have been available for tour operators since March 2017. Travel agents can buy package deals
