‘One of the best things I ever did’ – Telegraph readers memories of school foreign exchange trips

Summers spent on the beaches of the French riviera, nights under the stars camped out on le Massif Central, and a detour to the Bavarian town of Oberammergau for its once-in-a-decade Passion Play depicting the story of Christ. 

These are just some of our readers’ memories of the moments that shaped their student exchange experiences from days gone by. But are these kinds of stories soon to be a thing of the past?  

This week, the British Council reported that such trips were on the decline – deemed “out of fashion” and burdened by Government red tape.
