Cruise to Rio carnival and join the party in Brazil
Sailing gently past misty mountains and into Guanabara Bay in the early morning was like the calm before the samba storm. Once we stepped off the gangplank we were plunged straight into the organised chaos of Rio de Janeiro at carnival time.
Thankfully we were in the hands of the ship’s guides, crew and, on one occasion, the captain, rather than the Lord of Misrule. I was sailing on the Azamara Pursuit and “Azamara” seemed to be a magic word, a mention of it enough to open doors and get us where we were going and back again.
