Area roundup: ECI Chamber Orchestra to perform ‘magical’ music
MUNCIE — The musicians of East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra will perform their annual spring concert, free to the public, on two different dates and sites: 7:30 p.m. April 6 in the Cornerstone Center for the Arts auditorium, 520 E. Washington St., and at 7 p.m. April 7 in the Westminster Village event hall, 5801 W. Bethel Ave.
This concert, “Under Their Spell,” honors the magic sounds of American composers, and is under the direction of conductor Rachel Eldridge, according to a release. The program will begin with the jazzy, sophisticated “Piano Concerto in F” by George Gershwin; featured soloist will be Muncie pianist Phillip Cooley, a retired local physician.
The later portion of the concert includes a taste of works from Leroy Anderson, Henry Mancini and John Williams. Charles Reynolds, formerly director for the state championship Southside High School band, will conduct.
The nonprofit ECICO is made up of student and adult musicians from across the community. The group specializes in making light symphonic programs available to all, through free public
