Hendrix Players Present ‘Passion Play Part Two’ February 20-23
CONWAY, Ark. (February 11, 2019) – The Hendrix Players present Passion Play Part Two by Sarah Ruhl,
Wednesday through Saturday, February 20-23, 2019, in Cabe Theatre on the
Hendrix College campus. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 2
p.m. Saturday. Performances are free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.
Passion Play Part Two is the second of three related
productions this academic year. Part One was presented in November, and an open
reading of Part Three will be presented later in the Spring semester. It is not
necessary to have attended a performance of Part One to appreciate Part Two or
Part Three.
Each part of Ruhl’s script dramatizes players rehearsing their
annual staging of the Passion in a different community. Part One was set in
1575 Northern England, after Queen Elizabeth outlawed the depiction of
religious drama; Part Two takes place in 1934 Oberammergau, Bavaria, as Hitler
is rising to power; and Part Three will take its audience to Spearfish, South
Dakota, from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. Each period finds the players
grappling with the intersection of ego, spirituality, and art during times of
great political change.

with scenery and lighting design by Professor of Theatre Arts Danny Grace ’77,
who is retiring this semester
