Letters: The SNP will wield power in defiance of the voting majority
SIR – Regardless of what Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP leader, said or didn’t say in conversation with the French Ambassador to the UK, I have always thought that what the SNP really wants but dares not admit publicly is another Tory government.
They could then await the outcome of an early in/out referendum on Europe, which could well trigger a constitutional crisis and a legitimate call for another independence referendum.
The rise of smaller parties and the unfair and archaic first-past-the-post system is a combination that could see candidates elected with less than 30 per cent of the votes cast. Those in Scotland who will not be supporting the SNP must give careful thought to how they vote on May 7.

SIR – Now, before the election result is known, would be a great time for politicians of all parties to pledge an independent review of constituency boundaries.
The basic principle of “one person, one vote” – with an equal value attached to each vote – is fundamental to our democracy. Restoring electoral fairness may even be a first step to restoring people’s faith in politicians.

SIR – David Cameron’s insistence that he would not sanction a second independence referendum demonstrates mind-blowing arrogance.
This decision belongs solely to the Scottish people. Should the SNP include it in the party manifesto for the 2016 Scottish Parliament election and win that,
